Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys athlete of the week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances between Oct. 4-10.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Jayden Hall, Cupertino football: Passed for 262 passing yards and three touchdowns as Cupertino, playing at home, remained undefeated with a 26-21 victory over Fremont-Sunnyvale in SCVAL El Camino Division play.

Greg Hilderbrand, Menlo water polo: The senior had 13 goals and five assists in victories over St. Francis and Monte Vista. Hilderbrand led the Knights in goals (six) and assists (four) against Monte Vista.  

Jordan Kennedy, De La Salle football: Kicked a 43-yard field goal, was 4 for 4 on extra points and had four touchbacks in the first half to help De La Salle defeat Folsom 31-10. Also averaged 31.33 yards on three punts.

Jalen Moss, Menlo-Atherton football: For the second week in a row, Moss saved the Bears with an interception near the goal line late in the fourth quarter to clinch a victory. Friday, his pick sealed a 47-46 win over Half Moon Bay. Moss also caught nine passes for 117 yards and two TDs.

Frank Payne, Las Lomas football: Ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns in 31 carries as Las Lomas opened Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division play with a 35-34 victory over Acalanes.

Jack Quigley, San Ramon Valley football: Threw four touchdown passes to lead the Wolves to a 41-13 victory over Amador Valley in an East Bay Athletic League Mountain Division opener.

Jaden Rashada, Pittsburg football: Passed for 363 yards, completing 21 of 30 passes, and five touchdowns as the Pirates rolled to a 49-14 victory over Heritage in a Bay Valley Athletic League opener.

Tyson Wallace, Benicia football: Threw four touchdown passes as Benicia rolled over Campolindo 35-0 in a Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division opener.

Josiah Yeager, Hillsdale water polo: The sophomore continues to fill the stat sheet. He had nine goals, four steals and an assist in a 17-7 victory over Sequoia. In a 25-6 victory over Priory, Yeager had 11 goals, four steals and two assists. Hillsdale begins this week with a 10-5 record.
