We see anime tattoos every single day and one of the most prominent franchises is “Death Note.” “Death Note” began as a manga, with the first volume debuting on December 1st 2003. The manga is written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The pair published 12 volumes of “Death Note” from 2003 to 2006 and there are more than 30 million volumes in circulation.
The story follows a teenager named Light Yagami who discovers a mysterious diary called the “Death Note.” This diary belonged to the Shinigami (supernatural creatures of darkness and death) Ryuk and allows the user to supernaturally kill anyone whose name is written inside. Throughout the manga, “Death Note” explores themes such as justice, the dichotomy of good and bad and the human psyche.
“Death Note” became an anime in October of 2006 and the series lasted for 37 episodes, concluding in June of 2007. A number of live-action films have been produced over the years, including 2017’s American adaptation. This film debuted on Netflix and a sequel is currently in development.
