OAKLAND — A 3-year-old boy riding with his father on an Oakland freeway Monday night was wounded in the foot when someone opened fire on the vehicle, authorities said.
The boy was in stable condition at a hospital. His father was not injured.
The shooting happened about 10:37 p.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 near the Fontaine Avenue overcrossing, authorities said.
Someone in another vehicle opened fire on the car, hitting the boy who was in the back seat. The car was also struck several times, authorities said.
The father got off the freeway at 98th Avenue and flagged another person down who drove them to a hospital where police were called.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation.
