HAYWARD — A 26-year-old man was killed and a passenger in his car badly injured in a collision Saturday morning with a semi-truck, police said Tuesday.
The name of the man killed has not yet been released.
The collision happened about 6:08 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Tennyson Road and Hesperian Boulevard.
The 26-year-old man and his passenger were trapped inside their car and had to be extricated by Hayward firefighters.
They were taken to Eden Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead and the passenger was in stable condition with major injuries, police said in a news release.
Police said the driver of the semi-truck was not injured, and it is not believed he is at fault for the collision.
Police said it is believed alcohol was a factor in the cause of the collision.

Police said additional details would be released as soon as possible.
This is Hayward’s eighth fatal traffic collision this year, police said.
