HERCULES — One motorist was killed early Sunday morning and three were injured in a three-car collision on Interstate 80 near Highway 4.
A solo motorist driving a Honda Accord first crashed into the back of a Toyota Yaris carrying two people, causing both vehicles to spin out. The Honda, disabled in one of the lanes, was then struck in the side by an oncoming Lexus RX350, according to the California Highway Patrol.
During the investigation, the CHP closed the westbound Highway 4 connector to westbound I-80 until 4 a.m.
The accident in Hercules was reported at 1:25 a.m. When officers arrived, they pronounced the driver of the Honda dead at the scene. The three others were transferred to the hospital with minor injuries, CHP Officer Adam Lane said Sunday.
He had no further information on the victims or the cause of the crash.
