The St. Mary’s Country Fair is back Oct. 8-10, and volunteers have planned a full weekend of events at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 219 Bean Ave. A few new things this year: The fair is only accepting credit cards—no cash—and tickets can be preordered at a discount. In addition to ever-popular bingo games on Saturday, 4-6 p.m., there will be music from local bands, a talent show, dance presentations and crafting booths where attendees can decorate birdhouses and picture frames. Games like ping-pong basketball and a toilet toss(?) should provide some good laughs. Fair hours are Friday, Oct. 8, 5-10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The harvest market was set to return Thursday, Oct. 7. www.stmarysfair.squarespace.com
Bluebottle Coffee’s newest location will be opening soon at 29 University Ave., between Steamer’s and Banana Republic. What’s special about Blue Bottle Coffee? Their coffee comes from a “single sustainable source of green beans.” More interesting is the story of the first Blue Bottle Café: In the late 1600s a war hero, Franz George Kolshitsky, found bags of coffee beans left by a retreating Turkish army, which thought them to be camel feed. Kolshitsky bought the coffee and opened Central Europe’s first-ever coffee house, The Blue Bottle, in Vienna, Austria. The rest is history. https://bluebottlecoffee.com

Folks waiting to try Immersive Los Gatos, a new nightclub run by restaurateur Alex Hult and event producer Donovan Friedman, will have to wait a little longer: The Haunted Bar, the venue’s first Interactive dinner theater production, is sold out. The long-term plan for the club, located in the former Mountain Charley’s saloon, is for a seasonally rotating pop-up theme bar, with dinner shows and special events. https://www.immersivelg.com
Los Gatos Morning Rotary recently awarded $15,000 in scholarships to high school students. The club has prepared and delivered food to families in need for West Valley Community Services. During the town’s End of Summer Celebration, the club poured over 300 margaritas, with profits going to fund local high school scholarships.
Gloria Blackwell, a grand dame of Los Gatos, has passed. The Ken Blackwell family built many homes in Saratoga and Los Gatos. Gloria was active in many local organizations and worked at the Village House for years.
