OAKLAND — A hit-and-run collision in East Oakland Friday night left a man out walking a dog in extremely critical condition, police said.

Authorities were trying to identify the man, who suffered severe head trauma.

The hit-and-run happened about 9:56 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Bancroft and 85th avenues.

Police said the man, believed to be an Oakland resident, was walking across 85th Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk with a dog when he was struck by a 1999 Toyota Camry that was traveling at high speed eastbound on Bancroft Avenue in a bicycle lane and went out of control before hitting the man and the dog.

The dog suffered a possible broken leg and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, authorities said.

The Toyota then crashed into two parked vehicles before the male driver and his possibly injured male passenger fled the scene on foot, leaving the Toyota behind, police said.

Detailed descriptions of the occupants were not released.

Police said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrests of the occupants of the Toyota. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
