Keanu Reeves has played some of the most memorable characters in film history. No, it’s not his birthday. No, he doesn’t have a movie coming out today. We just wanted to celebrate him today.
My first introduction to Reeves came through watching “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” Now, I know I’m going to sound like a super old by admitting this, but I still distinctly remember the day I strolled past the VHS tape at my local video store. All it took was one glance and I knew that I needed to see that movie. My mother was less than enthused. I’m pretty sure her “mother senses” were tingling as she recognized that this would be the top of movie I would watch 500 times and quote obsessively. And, as always, she was right. My very first email address was BobGhengisKhan@aol.com, for god’s sake.
When I got a little older it was in that very same video store where I discovered a little movie called “Point Break.” There’s so much to love in that film, but I don’t think it gets any better than when Reeves says, “You trying to tell me the FBI is going to pay me to learn to surf?”
These days, particularly when it comes to tattoos, people tend to think of Neo or John Wick when they think Reeves. And what’s not to love about a corporate drone who goes on to save the world or a dude who goes on a bloodthirsty rampage to avenge the death of his dog?
The one tattoo I really wish I could have found was one of the Sad Keanu meme. I refuse to believe that there isn’t a tattoo of this out there in the world. It’s seriously perfect.
