Halloween is upon us and we’re freaking stoked. This last year and a half has been rough and we could all use some holiday excitement. Halloween has been celebrated around the world for centuries and many of our favorite traditions such as Jack O’Lanterns and trick-or-treating have evolved from earlier practices performing during the Gaelic Samhain festival. Today, it remains one of the most observed holidays in the Western world and there are countles ways Halloween lovers partake in the fun.

One of the primary activities associated with Halloween is of course, trick-or-treating. It originates from a Scottish Halloween tradition called guising, where children went from house-to-house doing small performances in exchange for treats. This practice dates back to the 16th century and in many cases, the children wore costumes. Guising was introduced to North America during the 1920s, where it became trick-or-treating.

Other popular Halloween traditions include attending costume parties, bobbing for apples, carving Jack O’Lanterns and visiting haunted houses. Personally, I love to get into the spirit with a good Halloween movie and some of my favorites are “Hocus Pocus,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Trick ‘r Treat.”
