A tractor-trailer slammed into the back of a Massachusetts State Police cruiser just before midnight Tuesday, seriously injuring the trooper inside of the vehicle as he sat parked on Interstate 95 protecting a construction crew, state police said.
The unnamed male trooper, sitting in his cruiser on the southbound side of I-95, was seriously injured, but was alert and radioed for help himself, Dave Procopio, the state police’s media communications director, told Mass Live.
The cruiser was unmarked, but had its emergency lights on when it was struck, he said.
The trooper was transported to a Boston hospital. WCVB reports the trooper has been released. The nature of his injuries has not been released.
