Michelin is out with its second all-California guide, and 50 Bay Area restaurants earned the coveted stars that signify fine-dining excellence.
Six restaurants retained their three-star designation (the seventh, The Restaurant at Meadowood, was damaged by wildfire).
In the two-star category, Baume of Palo Alto fell off the list completely, while San Francisco’s Birdsong was elevated from one star to two.
The biggest changes are found in the one-star category. While eight new restaurants were awarded stars, many were dropped from the list either because they closed, changed their focus or were judged as not meeting Michelin standards.
Restaurants new to the list or with a changed star status are listed with an asterisk.
