Authorities on Tuesday identified a woman fatally hit by a man driving a car on a busy Concord road early Monday morning.
Union City resident Evangeline Marquez, 72, was fatally hit while walking across the 4300 block of Concord Boulevard, near Denkinger Road. A 69-year-old Concord man driving a vehicle hit her at about 7:20 a.m., police said.
An ambulance rushed Marquez to the hospital. She died there.
Police did not arrest the driver, who they said stayed and cooperated with them.
The commute road was moderately jammed with traffic when the crash happened, Concord police Sgt. Murtazah Ghaznawi said. The wreck happened about a mile from Concord High School and the El Dorado Middle School campus.
Police closed about a 600-foot stretch of Concord Boulevard in one direction following the wreck.
