Sidewalk office hours

Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian will hold Sidewalk Office Hours on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Sunnyvale Farmers’ Market, located at Murphy and West Washington avenues.

From 9:30-10:30 a.m., community members are invited to stop by to share their thoughts and concerns about local issues, ask questions, learn about county services and more. All questions are welcome, and no appointment is required.

Like water for film

Bay Area Older Adults is hosting virtual lectures this month on water conservation and film history.

The Oct. 7 workshop “Conserving Water Outside Your Home” will cover ways to reduce water use in the yard, pool and garden, and will provide details about how to apply for and successfully complete a Valley Water landscape conversion rebate project and share landscape design templates. This program runs 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

The Oct. 21 lecture “Film and History” explores how the narrative quality of movies leads to them playing a dominant role in how history is known. This lecture is presented by Foothill College’s Humanities Mellon Scholars Program director.
