Pumpkins in the Park

Pumpkins in the Park, a harvest fair to raise funds and enlist supporters for Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, is set for Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Discovery Meadow, 180 Woz Way.

Attendees can get free pumpkins while supplies last, take part in family-friendly activities and ride a giant slide. Local food trucks will also be on hand. For more information, visit https://grpg.org/calendar/events.

Students merit recognition

Dozens of seniors at San Jose high schools are among approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship program. These students are now in the running for some 7,500 scholarships worth $2,500 each that will be offered next spring.

High school juniors entered the program by taking the 2020 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
