In a come-from-behind victory, Gunn football’s Kevin Green is the Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week from Sept. 13-19.

Green, a senior two-way football star, earned 12,680 votes — good for 33.8% — to claim the crown after an impressive performance in a win over Yerba Buena. Green scored five times: he touched the ball 10 times on offense and scored four times while accumulating 207 yards; on defense, he intercepted two passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Green edged out Dougherty Valley’s Aryan Gaur, who built an early lead in the voting after running for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Gaur finished in second place with 18.2%, followed by California High’s Tate Asborno with 14% and Gunderson water polo’s Preston Tchoi with 11.8%.

With more than 37,000 votes cast, the boys athlete of the week poll set a record for a second consecutive week.

Congratulations to Green and all who were nominated.
