MINNEAPOLIS — Crime continues in Minneapolis despite efforts to eliminate the police department as Minnesota’s largest city suffered a deluge of gunfire in the past day.
Last year the Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to disband their police department. As some citizens have fought back, even suing the city for lack of protection and to get more cops on the street, another group — Yes 4 Minneapolis — has continued the fight to dramatically alter local law enforcement.
Last week the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that voters in Minneapolis may decide on whether or not to abolish the police department as it’s currently configured in the upcoming municipal elections, Law Officer reported.
On Sunday, KTSP reported, “A spate of seven shootings across Minneapolis over a 26-hour span between Saturday and Sunday morning left 11 people injured, two critically, police say.”
The news outlet provided an overview of each shooting, and reported that “all of these incidents are under investigation.”
Perhaps this is why rational thinking citizens say they want more, not fewer officers on the streets.
