Although Garfield insists he’s being honest about not appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home – which he very well could be, considering that rumored spoilers are just that, unverified rumors – there have been other instances in MCU history where high-profile stars vehemently denied their involvement in one of the franchise’s superhero flicks – only to pop up on the big screen when the film finally hit theaters.
While appearing on a panel for his film Penguins of Madagascar at 2014’s Comic-Con, Benedict Cumberbatch outright denied he’d be playing Sorcerer Supreme. “That’s a joke, I’m not Doctor Strange,” he told the audience. A few months later, it was announced he’d be portraying the hero on the big screen.
Cumberbatch is not alone – Brie Larson also denied her involvement with the MCU, asking a reporter “who is Captain Marvel?” when questioned about the rumors.
So, folks, it seems we may just have to wait until the flick hits theaters to uncover the truth.
