Overview
Some SUVs are practical, some are fun to drive, but the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace is one that manages to succeed at offering both trait—and it sports some gorgeous sheetmetal to boot. Inspired by the lovely F-Type sports car, the F-Pace stands out among the throngs of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz compact SUVs. A trio of powertrains are offered, starting with the 246-hp turbocharged four-cylinder P250 and culminating in the refined and powerful 395-hp turbo- and-supercharged inline-six P400 model. The F-Pace’s cabin dons all the trappings of a modern luxury car, including fine materials, cutting-edge infotainment tech, and a host of driver-assistance features.
What’s New for 2022?
Following a more thorough refresh for the 2021 model year, the F-Pace is largely unchanged for 2022 and continues to offer the same powertrains, features, and designs as last year’s model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
We think the turbocharged four-cylinder P250 S offers the best balance of performance and value. Upgrading from the base P250 to the P250 S adds unique 19-inch wheels, a power-operated rear liftgate, handsome leather upholstery stitched in a diamond pattern, the more desirable PiviPro infotainment software with navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and traffic-sign recognition.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Every 2022 F-Pace features an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The engine lineup includes a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 246 horsepower. The F-Pace is also available with a much more powerful turbocharged-and-supercharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes either 335- or 395-hp. The standard four-cylinder isn’t as refined as the turbo-fours in the BMW X3 or the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. In our initial test drive with the inline-six, we noted good responses and perky acceleration, but the transmission proved hesitant to downshift for passing power in all but the Sport driving mode. When we got the 395-hp F-Pace P400 in for testing, we recorded a 5.5-second zero-to-60-mph time, which proved to be sightly slower than the previous model we tested but nonetheless felt plenty powerful. Jaguar intentionally tunes the F-Pace’s suspension on the firm side for a sporty feel. The ride is never harsh, although the larger available wheel sizes (Jaguar offers up to 22-inch-diameter wheels) can add some jiggle to the suspension’s movements over bumps. Regardless of model, every F-Pace’s steering setup is quick and delivers confidence-inspiring feedback from the front tires to the driver’s hands. Driven quickly, the F-Paces sharp responses are genuinely impressive and make this Jaguar crossover truly fun to drive.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA has rated the F-Pace’s new inline-six engine as high as 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, which represents a significant improvement over the outgoing supercharged V-6. The turbocharged four-cylinder is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, and on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route—part of our comprehensive testing regimen—the last four-cylinder F-Pace we tested achieved 26 mpg. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
In keeping with Jaguar’s lineup-wide minimalist interior aesthetic, the F-Pace’s cabin features simple detailing, easy-to-reach secondary controls, and lots of window area for enhanced visibility. You sit high in both the front and rear seats, and the driver is treated to an excellent seating position, square to the steering wheel and pedals. The F-Pace’s front-seat legroom and headroom measurements are among the roomiest in this class, while the aft quarters are merely average. Large climate-control buttons are easy to use, and the central touchscreen display is only a slight reach for either occupant of the front seat. Aside from its relative lack of cubby space for front-seat passengers, the F-Pace’s cargo-hauling capabilities are far greater than its sexy styling would suggest. Release handles in the trunk and atop each rear seatback lowers the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats to a nearly flat position. Doing so created room for up to 22 carry-on suitcases.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Jaguar’s latest touchscreen-based infotainment system is called Pivi. It distills core functions into simple, well-arranged menus and it looks slick. We haven’t used the new Pivi or PiviPro system in the F-Pace yet but we have had the chance to sample it in the new Land Rover Defender and found it to buggy and prone to malfunction. Luckily, unlike Jaguar’s last infotainment software, Pivi is capable of over-the-air updates so as engineers work out the bugs the F-Pace can be easily updated. Every F-Pace comes standard with an 11.4-inch curved-glass touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 14-speaker Meridian stereo system; built-in navigation and a mobile hotspot also are available.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Buyers who want the latest safety and driver assists still have a satisfying selection of choices, including a generous suite of standard driver-assistance technology and several high-tech options. For more information about the F-Pace’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard forward collision-warning and automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control

- Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
