ANTIOCH — A driver was killed in a four-vehicle crash Friday afternoon after being struck by another car that was merging into his lane on Highway 4.
The man, a 56-year-old Discovery Bay resident, was pronounced dead at the scene from fatal injuries suffered in the crash, California Highway Patrol said. His identity will be released by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office after next of kin is notified.
Authorities responded to the crash at about 1:38 p.m. Friday. The man was driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe in front of a semi truck on Highway 4’s westbound lane, east of Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch.
A white Infiniti G37 merged between the two vehicles and struck the Tahoe, sending it veering to the right and into the highway’s guardrail, and then back into the lanes where it was struck first by the semi truck and then by a grey Toyota Corolla.
None of the other drivers involved in the crash were taken to a hospital.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, California Highway Patrol said in a statement.
