OAKLAND — A 46-year-old man was shot multiple times outside his East Oakland home late Tuesday night, authorities said.

He was in stable condition at a hospital.

The shooting was reported about 11:02 p.m. Tuesday in the 5500 block of Fleming Avenue.  Officers initially responded to a ShotSpotter alert and found numerous shell casings but not the victim.

It turned out he had gotten a ride to a hospital from another person, authorities said.

The man was able to tell police he had just returned home and was outside when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and whether the man was the intended target or was hit by stray bullets. No arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
