A Webster (LA) Parish sheriff’s deputy died in the line of duty last week.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, Deputy Trey Copeland was working as a part-time police officer for the town of Cotton Valley, according to Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker. On LA Highway 371 near Cotton Valley, he was assisting in the pursuit of a motorcycle, which lasted about 20 minutes.
Following the chase, Deputy Copeland said he was not feeling well and was taken to a northwest Louisiana hospital where he later died, KSLA reports
He is the second Webster Parish deputy to die on duty this summer. Both died working part time for local law enforcement agencies.
William “Billy” Earl Collins, Jr. was a full-time deputy at the Bayou Dorcheat Correction Center and was serving part-time as a Doyline police officer when he was shot and killed in July.
